America is not A Christian Nation – An Apology For America?

By Wayne Perry man

I was quite upset when I heard our President, who is also a Constitutional Law professor, tell the Turkey citizens that “ America was not a Christian Nation.” When he was studying constitutional law, didn’t they teach him anything about the case The church of the Holy Trinity v. The United States, where the United Supreme Court ruled on February 29, 1892, that America, was a “Christian nation.”

A quick review of the case will tell us that Holy Trinity hired a new pastor from England and the U.S. Attorney General said the church violated immigration laws which prohibited the hiring of individuals from other countries. When the case reached the United States Supreme Court, the court held that the law did not pertain to religious situations, and that America was a “Christian nation.” In writing the majority opinion and reaching the conclusion that America was a “Christian nation,” Justice David Josiah Brewer did not merely review the merits of this case, he took under consideration of the entire history of the making of our nation - going back to Christopher Columbus and the religious heritage of our founding fathers. Obama knew this when he made that statement.

He also knew that in that opinion, Justice Brewer recognized the words of our Declaration of Independence, which says that we are “endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” It was clear to the court that this nation was established on Christian principles. A Professor of Constitutional Law like Obama should have known this.

Obama should have told the Turkish government that he recognized significant role that Turkey has played in the Bible in that Paul wrote to the early Christian churches that were located in Turkey and that their mountain, Mt. Ararat, was the mountain that the Bible states is where Noah’s Ark landed. He ignored the se truths and came home and held a Jewish ceremony in the White House for Passover, even though he had not attended a Christian church since being elected as President of the United States ( in 11 weeks).

The President told Muslims that we are not at war with Islam. Instead he should have reminded them that it was our country (with little help from any other country) that sent our young men and women to Bosnia to stop the ethnic cleansing, that killed a multitude of Muslims.

Then the President apologized for America ’s arrogance. Apologize for what?

  1. Apologize because we sent our young soldiers ages 17-20 to die for their freedom.
  2. Apologize because in return, we asked not to run their nation, but only asked for enough dirt to bury our sons.
  3. Apologize because these young men never had the chance to experience the American Dream because they were fighting for their dream.
  4. Apologize because our taxpayers funded the fight for their freedom with our tax dollars
  5. Apologize because thousands of black soldiers who fought for their freedom came home were denied those same freedoms in states and towns that were controlled by Democrats
  6. Apologize because after the war, we took the tax money from our citizens including from those black veterans who were denied those same freedoms at home, to rebuild Europe under the Marshall Plan w hile poor blacks in the south and poor whites in the Appalachian region (coal miners) lived in one room shacks with no running water and outdoor toilets.

America never said we were perfect, but how many times have other countries sent their young men and women to fight and die on our behalf? How many times have they used their tax money to rebuild our cities and towns while their people lived in one room shacks with outdoor toilets and no running water? How many times have their veterans returned home from fighting for our freedom only find that their government cut the funding for their benefits?

We are not a Christian nation? Why do we have20three national holidays that when originally instituted they were based on our Christian faith (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter – Good Friday on the east coast). Why do we have so many social programs initiated by Christian organizations that reach out to the rest of the world (Red Cross, Salvation Army, YMCA and a multitude of mission organizations), spending billions of dollars to help others in the name of Christ? Why do we acknowledge the life and death of Jesus Christ on every important document including our currency in years of AD and BC? Was it an accident that we placed “In God We Trust” on that currency? Why didn’t Congress object when we added the words “One nation under God,” to our Pledge of Allegiance?

Then the President said, it was not so long ago that a person who looked like him, could not vote in America. What he should have said that20it was not so long ago that a person who looked like him could not vote in states that were controlled by Democrats. Blacks have been voting in America since March 30, 1870 with the passage of the 15th Amendment (an Amendment introduced, sponsored and supported by Republicans). It was only in the South (which was controlled by Democrats) that blacks were denied the right to vote. That’s why the Voting Rights Act of 1965 specifically mentioned the states that they were targeting with that law - and all of those states were controlled by Democrats and it was the Democrats from those states that adamantly opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1865.

Sorry if I sound angry, but I am.
